Wesley!

Please join us in honoring Professor Wesley Smith for a distinguished
career in experimental particle physics that spans investigations into
neutrino phenomena at Fermilab, deep inelastic scattering and
structure functions at HERA, and proton-proton interactions at the
LHC.   Wesley has been a leader in the field of triggering, designing
and commissioning electronics for calorimeter triggers for over three
decades.   His colleagues, former students and friends will gather in
Madison for a symposium that will review Wesley’s contributions to the
field.

We are pleased to report that Wesley Smith has been awarded the 2020 W.K.H Panofsky Prize in Experimental Particle Physics! "For the development of sophisticated trigger systems for particle physics experiments, which enabled measuring the detailed partonic structure of the proton using the ZEUS experiment at the Hadron-Electron Ring Accelerator and lead to the discovery of the Higgs Boson and the completion of the Standard Model with the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment at the Large Hadron Collider."
