Summary (2-4 sentences)

I will describe two workflows that I currently use to simulate the weather-driven dispersal of forest defoliating insects in eastern Canada. The first workflow combines HTC and HPC resources at UW-Madison in a single DAGMan procedure for weather model input pre-processing on HTC, MPI-based Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model simulations on HPC, and model output post-processing again on HTC. The second workflow uses HTC resources (including OSG) to run and post-process ensemble simulations (with up to 1000 members) of insect dispersal flight over a single night using the WRF modeling products, providing probabilistic dispersal event information for use by forest managers seeking to limit the detrimental effects of an ongoing insect outbreak in the region.
